BRAZILIAN DAY IN LA 2009 Brings Pepeu Gomes Directly from Brazil! BRAZILIAN DAY IN L.A. – SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 12, 2009 LOS ANGELES, AUGUST 2009 - The Consulate General of Brazil in Los Angeles and Brazil Foundation* are proud to announce the annual “Brazilian Day in L.A.”, scheduled to take place at the La Brea Tar Pits (5801 Wilshire Blvd., Los Angeles, CA, 90036), on Saturday, September 12, from 12 noon to 6 pm. The event is open to the public and free of charge. This year’s edition features instrumentalist, composer, and arranger Pepeu Gomes, ranked in “Guitar World Magazine” as the #1 guitarist in Latin America. A former member of “Novos Baianos”, an experimental psychedelic rock band from 1970s, Gomes performed with many top musicians, such as Gilberto Gil and Carlos Santana; pulsing a mix of traditional Brazilian rhythms such as Choro and Samba with Rock’n’Roll.. Taking the stage with Pepeu, are Wagner Fulco, guitarist for Antonio Banderas, Ricky Martin, Tracy Griffith and the Steve Vai Band; Antonio de Sant’anna, who recorded two CDs with his own compositions along with Spanish singer and composer Marta Santamaria; and percussionist Marco Gibi, who sided with Sergio Mendes, Airto Moreira, Afro Brazil, and Ricky Martin. With non-stop music all afternoon, the “Brazilian Day in L.A.” also showcases: - TriOrgânico (Fabiano do Nascimento, Pablo, and Tiki) delivering an organic blend of Brazilian rhythms. - Starting as an Opera Singer and a classical actress, Andrea Ferraz recently formed D’Água, a music group that mixes Samba, Forró and Bossa Nova, fused with eccentric electronic beats. According to music critic Devon Wendell: “Ferraz came out dancing with a wild and wooly seven piece band and it was evident from Ferraz’s first hip-shake that this was true-to-the-game Brazilian party music.” - With the Samba and Pagode rhythms on the hands of Brasilidade (Flávio Ribeiro, Carlinhos do Pandeiro de Ouro, Francisco) is impossible not to dance and get in the mood of this wonderful celebration! In addition to music, visitors will have the opportunity to enjoy a capoeira presentation with Capoeira Besouro Group (Ginga Arts) and participate in a soccer workshop supervised by World Cup Champion Rildo Menezes. Brazilian visual arts are represented at the event by Ana Paula Negrão (Photography), Andrea Nantes (Painting), David Bianchi (Painting), Fernando Linhares (Painting), Marcia Brito (Photography), Olavo Multini (Painting), Rose Lobo (Multimedia), and Sandra Zebi (Ceramics). Feijoada, pastel, pão de queijo, acarajé and other delicious Brazilian flavors will be available for purchase.
